the new bomb on echocord colour comes from nick höppner and scott monteith aka deadbeat. this is the first ep by nick höppner on echocord colour. nick is maybe most known as being the manager of one of berlins most infamous record labels, ostgut-ton, höppner may not always receive the same lavish praise as ostgut artists like ben klock, shed and marcel dettmann, but there is an argument to be had that he is the best of the bunch. höppner only releases sporadically, but whether it is solo or alongside lee jones as mymy, his records are always remarkable. the 2 tracks for this release are both peaktime tracks. deadbeat did the remix.

after 2 years of squabbling over who does the washing up and various teabag shortages in the kitchen, luke and milla decided to take their arguments into the studio. milla comes from an indie and scando-pop listening background with luke being a full on house and techno chin stroker. they love to experiment and record lots of different sounds for their compositions, be it 5 guys in the garden shed bashing bin lids together, screwing up plastic bags or sweeping the floor, if it makes a sound, it makes music. together they have created a spacey and melancholic two tracker abundant with love and emotion. >disappearing stars< comes with a matthew burton and kate rathod remix and the >its just us< remix has luke and matthew behind the wheel taking it down to china town.

nice price deal !!! here comes a record that shouldnt have been released in the first place. who first started to circulate the cd-r with the blue inscription waiting for kim / we get high is totally unknown. the more known though, is who has been playing these two tracks, the one subtly uplifting, the other cranky dark, over the last few months. its still an unsolved riddle who is responsible for those two very divergent (but obviously coming from a single source productions. the fact that now these two tracks are coming out as a white label doesnt shed any more light on the affair either. but will please the dj and club world nonetheless.

nice price deal !!! vae victis is back for its 2nd release and is glad to welcome the very first debut of nightjars. with this 4 tracks ep the label shifts on a different musical path, sound and style wise. sound wise, both sides are written, mixed and produced on hardwares and polarized on a ferromagnetic tape. technically, side a (raw side) is mixed with a tough multitrack mixer brought to its saturation limit: the sound is indeed distorted, raw and unfriendly. while the flipside (clean side) is instead mixed with a big class a vintage studio mixer. the sound is brighter, richer of harmonics and the infrasounds are charged thru a wide dynamic range. style wise,the label shifts on a more broken beat field, lets call it bass, dubstep or whatever, but anyway something which should put this vinyl in the records bags of all the lovers of shed, peverelist and horsepower productions to name a few.

vinyl edition (7x12inch) is limited to 1500 copies ww!!! ostgut ton releases this unique compilation of music crafted from field recordings made inside the two berlin clubs berghain and panorama bar. the concept and original recordings were made by the berlin based producer emika. over a period of two months emika created the recordings in the clubs while they were closed to the public and edited them into a library of sounds. the library was then given to all the ostgut ton artists, but also to club associates like dj pete aka substance, dinky, cassy, margaret dygas, ryan elliott and scuba using his scb alias, to make music with. this release marks the celebration of the labels five year anniversary!!

fresh 2010 repress !! historia y violencia is a new project exploring the hispanic roots of santiago salazar (dj s2) and j. mendez (silent servant). both producers dissect their latin upbringings as a cinematic theme to create snapshots of the day-to-day blood and sweat that has shaped them as individuals. the sound takes cue from detroit, berlin and chicago to create classic, deep dancefloor tracks. santiago salazar started djing in the early 90s inspired by mix tapes his brother was bringing back from the gay underground scene in los angeles. his style has always been a mixture of house and techno. after moving to detroit, santiago began his music training with mike banks, label founder of underground resistance. he is also half of the duo ican (ican productions / planet e) who have been responsible for some killer techno releases. the central american born j. mendez cut his teeth as jasper in the late 90s/early 2000s, running the california-based cytrax label. a veteran dj from the age of 16, he has performed worldwide in clubs from berlin to osaka. along with technical wizards kit clayton and sutekh, he helped shed light on the small but influential minimal techno scene on the west coast. a chance meeting with karl oconnor in 1999 established a friendship that would later open the door to the sandwell district label in 2006. silent servants sound is a reinterpretation of early 80s post-punk electronics, paired with the deep, metallic sounds of basic channel and downwards.

groovebox ep is filled with some class a material for the raunchy dancefloor. first up there is into the club. this track is typical for channel x: it will blow off the roof in the club! as the title of the track already suggests, this is another one of channel xs lengthy journeys into nightlife extravaganzas. a wonderful fidgety bassline and a loop filled with loads of soulful vocal samples from strong male leads to sensitive female souls, this tune is both deep, touchful and destroying. the chainsaw effect session in the middle paves the way for more stomping tech-house business. no time to recover from this, because on the flip its straight onto the floor with wake up: a loop thats made of trillions of little cut-up effects, vocal bits and some straight four to the floor business. after a playful beginning the tune moves into an hypnotic piece of trippy techno only to be converted into a restless party anthem for the Überpeak-time. sick! perhaps there is some time to chill with the last of the three tracks that is against the wall. here it becomes clear what channel x are best at: to create dark, hard and moving electronic music with that special ingredient that is soul. this track is a perfect example: some frightening effects, lots of reverb on the creepy samples, but such a wonderfully harmonic sample that seems to shed light at the end of the never-ending afterhour. if there is a message to this music, it would be: you need to look hard, but there is always love. once again label boss oliver koletzki has picked up these two very talented producers very early upon their career and it has paid off: in one release being better than the one before
